Research Scholars

The Becker Friedman Institute offers prestigious pre- and postdoctoral positions to applicants who demonstrate the ability to generate outstanding research in economics. The Institute is particularly focused on attracting young scholars who seek to broaden their research interests while maintaining a commitment to rigorous analysis.

One-year research opportunities will be awarded to promising scholars who have completed their doctorate within the past three years. In addition, two-year pre/postdoctoral positions may also be available for exceptional candidates in the final year of their doctoral studies.

These programs are designed to offer the freedom to explore promising lines of inquiry without teaching responsibilities. These Research Scholars will be uniquely positioned to leverage the rich collaborative environment and unparalleled resources of the University of Chicago to pursue original work on significant questions in economics.

The Institute welcomes nominations of candidates for these positions. Candidates should be proposed by faculty under whom they have studied. Nominations should include the candidate's curriculum vitae, letters of reference, and a brief description of the research topic to be explored.

Nominated candidates will be asked to submit a short statement that outlines the areas of economics and related fields that are of primary interest and summarizes research project or projects to be explored.

Nominations will be accepted on a continuous basis. Please send materials to bfi@uchicago.edu. For more information, please e-mailĀ usor call 773.702.5599.
