Professor and Director of the Institute for Empirical Research in Economics, University of Zurich
Ernst Fehr’s research covers topics on the evolution of human cooperation and sociality, in particular fairness, reciprocity, and bounded rationality. He is also well known for his important contributions to the new field of neuroeconomics, as well as to behavioral finance and experimental economics. In addition to leading the Institute for Empirical Research in Economics, Fehr is director of the University Research Priority Program on the Foundations of Human Social Behavior at the University of Zurich. He is an affiliated faculty member of the department of economics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (honorary), the Association for Psychological Science, and the Econometric Society, and a John Kenneth Galbraith Fellow of the American Academy of Political and Social Sciences. Fehr is also a fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research and the CESifo Group. He received his master’s degree and PhD from the University of Vienna.
