Leadership
University of Chicago faculty members play a crucial role in determining the goals and direction of the Institute.
Chairing the Becker Friedman Institute for Research in Economics is Gary S. Becker, University Professor in Economics, Sociology, and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Lars Peter Hansen, David Rockefeller Distinguished Professor of Economics and Statistics and the founding director of the Institute, serves as Research Director.
Together, they will plan the Institute's programs and set the intellectual agenda in consultation with an Institute Research Council composed of selected University of Chicago faculty and other leading scholars.
A Board of Overseers led by Edward Lazear of Stanford University will provide strategic advice to help advance the Institute.
