Paul Milgrom

Paul Milgrom’s research explores the some of the counterintuitive implications of efficient auctions and markets.

He played a primary role in developing FCC auction rules for business-to-business internet markets and spectrum, and has led or supported auction design project teams in various countries including Canada, Germany, and Mexico.

Since 1987, Milgrom has been the Shirley and Leonard Ely Professor of Humanities and Sciences in the Department of Economics at Stanford. Before Stanford, he has held positions at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Northwestern University, University of California Berkley, and Yale University. He has also founded several companies.

He is a fellow of the National Academy of Sciences and the Econometric Society, and previously served as editor of the American Economic Review. He gave a Nobel Prize memorial lecture in honor of William Vickrey, and was awarded the Erwin Plein Nemmers Prize in Economics in 2008.

He received his doctorate in business and master’s degree in statistics from Stanford.
