Professor
Dolores Albarracin, Ph.D., is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She received a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Belgrano (Argentina). Before joining the faculty at Illinois, she was on the faculty of the Department of Psychology at the University of Florida (from Assistant Professor to R. David Thomas Legislative Endowed Professor). She has conducted basic research on attitudes, behavior, and persuasion as well as applications to health promotion. She has edited two books: the Handbook of Attitudes, and Prediction and Change of Health Behavior. Her work has been published in the Psychological Bulletin, the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Psychological Science, the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, and Health Psychology. She has had continuous NIH funding since receiving her PhD in Social Psychology in 1997. Her basic work has been an attempt to elucidate the cognitive and motivational mechanisms that underlie the influence of persuasive messages and past behavior on attitudes. Her work on health promotion has entailed theoretical and empirical integrations in the domain of HIV prevention (Albarracin et al., 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005; Durantini el al, 2006) as well as field studies in the area of intervention enrollment and retention. She also investigates health disparities in health promotion.
