Human Capital and Economic Opportunity: A Global Working Group

Giovanni Gallipoli

Dept of Economics, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada
Assistant Professor

I completed my PhD in Economics at University College London in 2007. My thesis studied the equilibrium effects of education policies and how government interventions can affect heterogeneous individuals (e.g. people with different wealth or ability) in different ways. I currently work at UBC and my research mostly focuses on the way the interaction of market incentives and dynamic decisions at the 'family' level results in a variety of outcomes over individuals' life cycle, including labor supply, education, transfers of wealth, marriage and divorce. In my work I try to relate market constraints and family interactions to the analysis of risk-sharing of idiosyncratic risk.
